Golden Guide 2FA (Two Factor Authentication)

What is Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a method of confirming the identity of someone prior to allowing further access. On Zenyte, users can enable 2FA onto their account which means that a 6 digit time-based code must be provided to confirm your account ownership in order to fully login to the server and or forums. Setting up 2FA takes a few minutes and you will only need to provide the code once per month under usual circumstances and is strongly advised as it is a powerful security tool to keep unauthorized people away, leaving your account and items safe. Shown below is a very thorough step-by-step guide on how to setup 2FA using Winauth as well as how to remove it if is absolutely necessary. 

 

List of recommended 2FA applications

• Authy (Best free option to use because it syncs codes to an account so you can access them on any device)
• Bitwarden (Best overall but it's a paid for service, it's very cheap and includes password management. This is what I use personally)
• Winauth (The 2FA application used in the guide)
• Google authenticator
• Duo-mobil

 

Setting up 2FA

Note: The following steps shows me setting up 2FA with the application Winauth. As mentioned above, there are several different 2FA applications you can choose from and the set up shouldn't be too different than what I've posted below for Winauth.

Step 1: Left click your name and click Account Settings.
 

 

Step 2: Scroll down and click Account Security from the options and type your forums/in-game password in the field provided.

 

Step 3: Right click the QR code and copy the image address. If you are using a phone 2FA application, you should have an option to scan the QR code with your camera.

 

Step 5: For Winauth users, paste the image address copied in the previous step into the field provided on the Winauth menu (in pink) and leave the other options default (time-based, 6 digits, etc). After uploading the image for Winauth or scanning the image with your mobile device's camera, use the verify authenticator button to generate a 6 digit code and put it on the text field provided on the forums (marked in purple).  Note: Please do NOT delete your 2FA application as you most likely will lose any authenticators you've made so you could lose access to your account!

   

 

Additional steps for players who are using 2FA applications without QR code scanners below.

Step 5: For those without a QR code scanning device, click "Not able to scan the QR code?" to get a key that you manually type. Make sure to use the time-based option on your 2FA application. Note: Do NOT share your 2FA key with ANYONE! The code shown below is edited so it can be shown as an example.

 

Step 6: If you are using the a program without a QR code scanner, create a new authenticator and put your your key in the text field provided by your 2FA application (marked in yellow in the picture below) and make sure this authenticator is time-based if available. Type the code obtained after verifying the authenticator into the text field provided on the forums (marked in purple). The example below is color coded and shows the steps for the 2FA application Winauth.

 

 

Step 7: When logging into the server or forums, use the same 2FA application to obtain a 6 digit code as needed to log into the server or forums.

 

Removing 2FA with access to your 2FA application

Unless absolutely necessary, I would strongly advise you to NOT remove 2FA from your account in order to keep your account and items safe.
 

Step 1: Left click your name and click Account Settings.

 

Step 2: Scroll down and click Account Security from the options and type your forums/in-game password in the field provided.

 

Step 3: Click the "Disable this method" option to disable 2FA from your account.

 

 

 

 

Removing 2FA without access to your 2FA application

Unless absolutely necessary, I would strongly advise you to NOT remove 2FA from your account in order to keep your account and items safe.
 

Step 1: Left click your name and click Account Settings.

 

Step 2: Scroll down and click Account Security from the options and type your forums/in-game password in the field provided.

 

Step 3: Click the "or verify using another method>" option to continue disabling 2FA from your account.

Step 4: Click the "Get an email to recover access" option to continue disabling 2FA from your account



Step 5: Inside of your email inbox of the email attached to the account you will receive an email titled "Action required to recover access to your account" from the email address: forums@zenyte.com
open it up and click the "Recover Account Access" button
 

Your 2FA will now be removed

Additional Information

• It is possible to setup 2FA across multiple devices for one account. For example, you can use a mobile 2FA application (google authenticator) and a PC 2FA application (Winauth). So, if you were to lose your phone you could still use your PC for the 6 digit 2FA code as needed.
• 2FA is a powerful tool to protect your account from unauthorized access, but we still highly recommend you to use a strong and unique password. 2FA acts as a final barrier for potential hackers trying to take your account & items, but a strong password will stop hackers from even attempting to log into your account.
